Special Mission: The Institution serves at the Agency’s Centralized Pre-Release Center for male inmates that are within 90-days of release back into their respective communities.
Education: Literacy, GED, and Work Keys.
Vocation: Brick Masonry, Business Applications, NCCER Safety Orientation (certified by OSHA). Certificate programs in horticulture, small engine repair, grounds maintenance, janitorial services, and food services.
Health Care: Routine medical care provided on site with 24-hour emergency care available
Programs: The Pre-Release Program is a two component system; a 60-day program where the inmate can work in an educational, vocational, or certificate program and then move into a 30-day program dedicated to outside community resources and skill enhancement in the area of employment. Additionally, there are religious services, volunteer services, recreational services, Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous available.
Community Services: Provides an inmate labor crew to the Department of Mental Health, the Criminal Justice Academy, the South Carolina Fire Academy and Richland County Public Works. Provides one correctional officer-supervised litter crew who pick up trash along interstate highways.

Wateree River Correctional Institution

Security: Level 2 (Male)
Special Mission: Phases I and II of the Department of Corrections’ Youthful Offender Institutional Services (YOIS) are operational at the institution. The YOIS is required for all inmates sentenced under the Youthful Offender Act. The institution also houses adult offenders.
SHOCK Incarceration Program: This program became operational May 1, 2012 at the institution. It is required for Court ordered male inmates who must be between the ages of 17 and 29 and who have passed a 15-day evaluation.
Agriculture: This institution provides inmate labor for the Agriculture and Food Service Division’s 7,000 acre row crop operation, the new dairy which provides milk for SCDC and the Department of Juvenile Justice, and beef cattle operations located adjacent to the facility.
Education: Literacy, GED preparation, and high school courses.
Vocational Training: Construction Engineering Operations (CEO) and the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF).
Health Care: Routine medical and dental care provided on site, five days per week.
Programs: Religious services, volunteer services, recreational services, Alcoholics Anonymous.
Community Services: Provides inmate labor crews to the Office of the Adjutant General, the City of Camden, Kershaw County, Lee County, the City of Sumter, Sumter County Public Works, and the Department of Transportation; provides three (3) correctional officer-supervised inmate litter crews who pick up trash along the I-20 and adjacent secondary roads; and an institution work crew which fills sandbags for use in coastal areas during hurricanes/floods due to storms.

Special Mission: Houses general population inmates, a Habilitation unit for mentally retarded inmates, a Special Management Unit, and operates a 90-day Shock Incarceration Program for male offenders between the ages of 17 and 29 who are court-ordered by a sentencing judge.
Education: Literacy, Basic Education, GED preparation, Special Education, Correctional Learning Network, and Lifeskills.
Health Care: Routine medical and dental care provided on Broad River Complex with 24-hour emergency care available.
Programs: Religious services, volunteer services, recreational services, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, Junior Achievement, Individual and Group Counseling, Anger Management, and Grief and Loss.
Services: General population inmates provide labor to SCDC Vehicle Maintenance and Car Wash, SCDC Training Academy Cafeteria, SCDC Commissary and uniform Detail, SCDC Central Office Annex, and SCDC Division of Security. Shock inmates provide community services to state agencies.
